Incorporation

HFGEL 110 can be incorporated into organic liquids using either high shear or high speed dispersing equipment. Optimum gelling efficiency is usually obtained when the proper degree of mechanical, chemical energy are applied to the system. The polar activator such as propylene carbonate, methanol/water (95/5), ethanol/water (95/5), or acetone acts as a wedge to help open up the clay platelets and developing maximum gellation. The relative amount of polar activator may from 30% to 60% by weight of HFGEL 110 depending on the system. Use levels of HFGEL 110 are generally 0.2-2.0% by weight of the system.
Types of Polar Additives Relative Amount Required based on the weight of dry HFGEL 110
Ethanol/Water (95/5%)                            40--50 %
Methanol/Water (95/5%)                            30--40%
Propylene Carbonate (100%)[aromatic hydrocardon]  30--60%
Propylene Carbonate/Water (95/5%)                30-60%
Acetone                                          60%

Following way is a very common method to add HFGEL 110 and others.
(1) Take a part of the solvent/(resin )(properly balanced) and mix.
(2) Add HFGEL 110additive and mix 5 to 8 minutes(The time depends on the dispersing speed).
(3) Add the required amount of polar additive and mix 5 minutes.
(4) Add the pigments and disperse.
(5) Incorporate the remaining solvent/resin and other ingredients following standard practice.
It is essential that HFGEL 110 add shortly after dispersion has begun .

Advantages
For Paints
+Very light color in solvent
+ High gelling efficiency over a wide range of solvents and temperature.
+ Produces reproducible thixotropic consistency .
+ Imparts particle suspension, preventing hard settling of pigments and fillers.
+ Exerts strong film reinforcing action in organic binder systems.
+ Easily dispersed under high to medium shear forces when in mix solvent of aromatic together with other polar solvent such as xylene together butanol solvent.

For inks
+ Reduces misting .
+ Prevents excessive penetration of ink into porous substrates.
+ Imparts particle suspension, preventing agglomeration.
+ When properly dispersed, after the organoclay gallent action is complete and very little post gelling occurs after the inks been packed in can.

For Grease
+Inhibits syneresis
+increases resistance to melting
+Worked stability
+High temperature stability.
